Year 3 take part in the county run ‘First Access’ programme. For 35 weeks of the year, they have a 50 minute whole class guitar lesson run by a specialist music teacher and supported by the award winning music learning platform; Charanga. All staff who work with your child or have access to their personal information have a current DBS certificate (see here for more safeguarding information). These sessions are designed to allow children to experience playing a tuned instruments and be part of an ensemble.
Pupils are able to take home the guitar and have access to Charanga at home in order to rehearse at home if they wish. There will be a summer performance to show their progress over the year.
Parents then have the option in Y4 of joining their child to the ‘Play on’ scheme to continue instrument learning in smaller groups.
