Following the removal of ‘levels’ to assess children, we have introduced a new assessment system which ties in with the statutory elements of Year 2 and Year 6 assessments as well as the West Oxford Partnership of Schools approach.
In summary, from this year we will be assessing the children at either working TOWARDS the National Standard expected for their age, AT the national standard or BEYOND the national standard. (The exact language we use will be determined before the annual reports are sent out in July) These judgements will be made using the teacher’s professional knowledge of the children and the National Curriculum. We will also being using a scaled score system (as they do in the Year 2 and year 6 tests) to give us a numeric way of tracking the children from year to year.
The presentation used at our parents meeting explaining the process in more detail can be found here:
Children in the Early Years are assessed against the National Early Years outcomes. The assessment outcomes are available here:
If you have any questions about the assessment system,or concerns about your child’s progress please do speak to your child’s class teacher.
